Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday strongly condemned Pakistan for its alleged role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists. Speaking at a public gathering in Katra, PM Modi said the attack was aimed at derailing Jammu and Kashmir’s growing tourism industry and provoking communal unrest across the country.
Paying tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator who was shot dead while trying to protect the tourists, Modi called him a true hero of Kashmir. “Pakistan attacked both humanity and Kashmiriyat in Pahalgam. Their aim was to harm peace and destroy the livelihood of the hardworking people of the valley,” he said.
The Prime Minister praised the resilience of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting how they stood united against Pakistan-backed terrorism. He also lauded the youth of the region for rejecting violence and choosing progress over extremism. “This is the same terrorism that once burned schools and ruined generations. But the youth have decided to fight back with courage,” he added.
The address came during the inauguration of major railway projects including the Chenab Bridge and Anji Khad Bridge. It was also Modi’s first visit to Kashmir after Operation Sindoor — a military response launched following the massacre in Pahalgam.
